Mild Hybrid Mild hybrid vehicles have a small battery that boosts performance and efficiency. They cannot travel on electric power alone, and do not need to be plugged in to charge.

Electric Electric vehicles are powered solely by a battery and electric motor. They emit no CO2 at all, and many models can travel 200 miles or more on a single charge. They must be connected to an electrical source to charge.

Full Hybrid Full or self-charging hybrid models have a combustion engine that’s supported by a small battery. They can only travel a couple of miles on electric power, and the battery is charged by the engine.

Plug-in hybrid As the name suggests, plug-in hybrid cars must be connected to a power source to charge. They have a larger battery to support the combustion engine, and can typically cover 20-30 miles on electric power alone.

    What is a hybrid vehicle?

A hybrid vehicle is one which combines a combustion engine with a battery and electric motor. Hybrid vehicles come in several types, some of which must be charged using an electrical source, while others are charged by the engine while the vehicle is in motion.

How often do hybrid batteries need replacing?

The battery on a hybrid vehicle is designed to last for at least 100,000 miles, meaning it’s unlikely to need replacing by the original owner.
